Rhyolite - Gift from Volcanos
Rhyolite is a rock made up of all the things you find in granite, but the volcanic magma that becomes rhyolite is extrusive, meaning that it cools above ground, while granite is intrusive and is formed below the surface. You’ll see similar colors in specimens of both: creams, greens, reds, browns, and grays.
Like granite, rhyolite is used for landscaping and ground fill. It’s not a good stone for construction however, so buildings would never be constructed of rhyolite as they are in granite. Some rhyolite is good for jewelry cabochons and beads. Rich in silicon, it is often glassy and either fine grained or containing larger crystals.
As you can see by the image with this blog post the right rhyolite rock cut, tumbled, and polished becomes the basis for a beautiful necklace, bracelet, or pair of earrings.
